Nashville Music Scene Loses Beloved Figure

Nashville, Tennessee, has lost a significant figure in the music scene with the passing of Travis Collinsworth, owner of the iconic East Nashville bar “The 5 Spot.” Collinsworth, who was 48, died of stomach cancer on Monday, leaving behind a legacy of supporting local musicians and keeping live music venues locally owned.

Collinsworth’s Passion for Live Music

Collinsworth was a true champion of live music, dedicating nearly 20 years to his bar, where five bands played every night. His vision was to create a space where musicians could not only perform but also connect with their community. As Todd Sherwood, co-owner of “The 5 Spot,” recalled, “Travis always said it’s a place for people to have their very first show and a place to have their homecoming show and their secret show if they make it big or their final show.” This philosophy was rooted in his passion for supporting local musicians and keeping the live music scene thriving in the city.

Collinsworth’s Personal Life

Despite his tough exterior, Collinsworth was a complex individual with a range of interests. Sherwood remembered him as an economics nerd who loved to read and played bass in local venues around Nashville. Collinsworth was also a fitness enthusiast, often riding his bike 60 miles a day, and a vegan who prioritized his health.
